How to build a sales dashboard from Excel in 5 minutes

Step by step: prepare your columns, pick a template and share the result with your team.

What you will achieve

A dashboard is a screen where you see your numbers at a glance. With your Excel (or CSV) sales file you can have, in a few minutes, total sales, number of orders, average ticket and charts by month, by product and by salesperson.

Everything is built in your browser: your file is not uploaded to any server.

What data it needs

The Sales template uses four pieces of data. Only the date and the amount are required; product and salesperson are optional (without them you will not see the charts by product or by salesperson):

Column What it is
Date When the sale was made
Amount How much you sold
Product What was sold
Salesperson Who sold it

Your columns do not have to be named exactly like this. The tool suggests which column is each piece of data based on its name (for example “Date”, “Amount” or “Salesperson”) and, in the Match your columns step, you can change it. .xlsx, .xls and .csv files are accepted.

Step by step

  1. Go to Dashboards and press Upload Excel or CSV.
  2. Upload your file.
  3. Choose the Sales template.
  4. In Match your columns, check which column is the date, which is the amount, which is the product and which is the salesperson.
  5. Look at your dashboard: sales, orders, average ticket and the charts of sales by month, by product and by salesperson.

Before you upload your file: a quick check

  • One row per sale. Each row should be one sale or order.
  • Real dates. Excel should recognize them as dates, not as loose text.
  • Amounts as numbers, with no currency symbols or mixed text.
  • No totals row at the end: the dashboard calculates its own totals and would count them twice.
  • Consistent names. “Shirt” and “shirt “ (with a space) are counted as different products.

How to read the results

  • Sales by month: are there high and low seasons? Which month surprised you?
  • Sales by product: which few products concentrate almost everything you sell?
  • Sales by salesperson: are there big differences? Before drawing conclusions, check whether everyone sold the same type of product.

Saving and sharing

Your free dashboard is saved only in your browser, never on our server. To export it, remove the watermark or take it to your PC as an HTML file, see the plans on the Dashboards page.
